A day of football, games and community spirit
A few days ago, Barry and our Enrichment Coordinator enjoyed a "Come on England" get-together hosted by South Brent and District Caring Group.
It was a warm and lively community event. There was football, music, games and plenty of friendly conversation. For Barry, it was a chance to enjoy something he loves while spending time with people in his local area.
At Care Right UK, we believe that good care should support the whole person. Daily support matters, but so do hobbies, friendships, routines and local links. These moments help people feel seen, included and valued.
Why community connection matters in care
Community care in Devon is about helping people live well in the places they know. It is not only about support at home. It is also about helping people stay linked to local groups, events and friendships.
Many people who receive care or support can be at risk of loneliness. This can happen for many reasons. Some people may find it harder to travel. Some may need support to attend events. Others may have lost regular social contact over time.
Local events can make a real difference. They give people a reason to get out, meet others and enjoy a change of scene. They also help people stay connected to the wider community.
A day full of activity
Barry threw himself into the day. He enjoyed table football, water shooting, singing and other activities. There was a lot to do, and he made the most of it.
The best part was seeing how happy and involved he was. His smile said everything. He was relaxed, engaged and clearly enjoying the moment.
These are the kinds of experiences that make enrichment support so important. They bring variety, choice and enjoyment into everyday life. They also help people build confidence by joining in and trying different things.
Supporting independence and choice
Independence can mean different things to different people. For some, it may mean managing daily tasks. For others, it may mean choosing where to go, who to spend time with and what activities to enjoy.
Care should protect those choices where possible. It should help people keep doing the things that matter to them.
This is why local community support is such an important part of social care in Devon. It helps people take part in normal community life. It also supports wellbeing in a natural and positive way.
The role of local groups
Community groups play a valuable role in reducing loneliness and helping people feel connected. Events like this one create welcoming spaces where people can come together.
South Brent and District Caring Group provided a friendly event with a strong community feel. It gave people a chance to enjoy the build-up around football while spending time with others.
Care Right UK is grateful to groups that create these opportunities. Local partnerships help make community care stronger. They also help people build links outside formal care settings.
Wellbeing through shared experiences
Wellbeing is shaped by many small things. A good conversation can help. So can laughter, music, a favourite activity or time spent with kind people.
Barrys day showed how powerful these simple moments can be. He was able to enjoy football-themed activities, sing along, play games and share the day with others.
These experiences can support mood, confidence and self-esteem. They can also give people happy memories to talk about later.
Thank you to South Brent and District Caring Group
A huge thank you goes to South Brent and District Caring Group for hosting such a welcoming event.
Barry had a fantastic time. The games, music and football theme made the day special, but the friendly atmosphere made it even better.
At Care Right UK, we are proud to support people like Barry to stay active, connected and involved. We look forward to more days filled with fun, friendship and local community spirit.
